Powder Metallurgie is a near-netshape manufacturing technology and is therefore suited especially for components of high complexity. The complexity, however, is limited by undercuts.
The basic process steps are the manufacturing of the powder, the pressing of the component into a green body and the sintering.
One advantage of the technology is that nearly no finishing processes are necessary after manufacturing. Another advantage of Powder Metallurgie is its material utilisation of almost one hundred percent. Additionaly it is possible to alloy materials that can not be mingled when liquid.
The most popular sintering materials are divided in:
- carbid metal
- sintered iron and sintered steel
- sintered aluminium, aluminium-silicon powder
- sintered bronze
- other sintering materials
